What are the next steps for coaching?
How does the process work?
We’ll start with a free, exploratory call to get to know one another. I’ll learn about your story, situation, and goals. We’ll begin to articulate a clear and actionable plan for working towards your personal and professional development goals and vision, including identifying potential obstacles and creating strategies to overcome them.
Assuming we find we’re a good fit, you’ll fill out an assessment to jumpstart your self-reflection process.
The first session together will be an extended, foundational session where we’ll create a Personal Development Plan, defining clear and specific goals that align with your life. leadership, or career vision (even if you think you don’t have one!) We'll break these goals down into achievable milestones and measures of success.
Each session thereafter will be focused on a topic from our co-created Personal Development Plan. Toward the end of each session, we’ll discuss action steps and accountability.
After each session, you’ll receive a Summary. This will recap the action steps you committed to that session, notes on the themes or topics that came up during the session, and resources for further learning and development.
I am available for short calls, texts, or emails in between sessions. I genuinely care about you and your progress.
What results can I expect?
While I can’t guarantee specific results (and any coach that does is pulling your leg) many clients begin to see change as early as the foundational session as they start to clarify their vision and name their blockers. I care deeply about my clients and getting them to where they want to go. While I promise to do and bring my best as a coach, you are fully responsible for creating your own decisions and results. Much depends on how deep you’re willing to go, how motivated you are to change, and how much you’re willing to put in.
Should I work with a coach, therapist, or consultant?
What’s the difference?
Therapy and coaching are similar in that they are both helping professions. Therapy tends to focus on uncovering and healing past traumas and/or targets more severe symptoms and mental health disorders.
In contrast, coaching is about life optimization based on the foundation that the client is creative, resourceful, and whole already. My coaching is productive and future-focused.
Coaching is also not advice, advisory services, or consulting. As a coach, I listen deeply, impartially, and non-judgmentally. I acknowledge you as the expert in your own life and therefore don't assume that what's worked for me or someone else will necessarily work for you.
We can talk more about the specifics of your situation on an exploratory call, but some rules of thumb:
If a difficulty or trauma from the past is heavily influencing you and/or your mental health is currently severely impacted, you may be best served by a therapist.
If you are looking for tactical help or someone to do the work for you — such as resume writing or content creation — you may be best served by a consultant.
If you are stuck, or want your life to be different/better or optimized, but can’t seem to get there on your own, you may be best served by a coach.
Is coaching confidential?
In a word: Yes. But there’s some fine print...
I hold myself to the highest ethical standards of confidentiality in accordance with the International Coaching Federation (ICF.)
There are a few rare but reasonable exceptions to confidentiality, such as: information I obtain is required by law to disclose, the likely risk of danger or harm to yourself or others, or if your situation involves illegal or criminal activity.
I don’t live in NYC, can I still work with you?
Yes! All sessions are by phone or video conference (aka Zoom.) I’ve worked with clients all over the US, Canada, and Europe.
Do you coach men?
Yes! Absolutely. My group programs focus on the challenges unique to professional women, but almost half of my 1:1 clients are men.
About coaching.
What's coaching?
Coaching is a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires clients to maximize their personal and professional potential. It’s an interactive, results-orientated, enlightening process that brings about the desired change.
Unlike consulting or therapy in which the practitioner is an expert in the coachee's topic, coaching is a tool that develops the coachee's own awareness, removes blockers in their thinking, and enhances their motivation to move forward.
How does coaching work?
I partner with my clients on a voyage of self-discovery, co-creating strategies and solutions to achieve their goals and aspirations. With deep listening and sharing observations, I provoke new insights that challenge my clients’ current ways of thinking. Coaching provides permission and accountability to help clients see, think, and enact things differently. Coaching is transformational rather than transactional.
What got you interested in coaching?
You can read a little more about my story here. Before coaching, I had a successful career creating purpose-driven experiences for art and tech communities.
Along the way, I recognized that when my colleagues and I encountered a professional challenge, it almost always boiled down to a personal development challenge. I became a coach so I could have a more direct impact and be part of the solution to help people thrive in the work and entrepreneur space in alignment with their own values.
Preparing for your session.
How should I prepare for a one-on-one coaching session?
In order to make the most of your session, please come prepared with a specific challenge you'd like to work through, insight you'd like to gain, or a specific area in your life you'd like to optimize.
For instance: "I'd like to feel less overwhelmed at work," "I'd like to explore what's next in my career," "I want to show up more confidently around my boss or colleagues," “I'd like clarity around a particular decision."
Getting ready for your session:
Get comfortable! Being in a private, quiet space with no distractions will aid in a more mindful, present conversation.
Having a pen and paper or other note-taking device handy will help you capture insights and next steps and other things you may want to take away from the session.
